Nor did I film this.
We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams.
World-losers and world-forsakers,
Upon whom the pale moon gleams;
Yet we are the movers and shakers,
Of the world forever, it seems.
I Didn’t Write This by Yulin Kuang is a beautiful youtube series that chooses prose passages and poems that are visually adapted using “visual metaphors and voiceovers”. The imagery in the short films are beautiful and the cinematography perfectly captures the essence of each short piece.
My favourite episodes are Ode and Sonnet 116. Each encompasses a story of a couple, the first reminds me of falling in love as a teenager – late nights and laughing, side glances and hands held under tables, talks of our favourite things and plans for the future. On the other end of the spectrum, Sonnet 116 has me thinking about the comforts of monogamy. Of the winter days of reading and small favors, of coming home to a face you know and love, still remembering the spark, but truly appreciating the low, long burning of embers that will never go out.
At the end of each film, the creator talks of her inspiration and thoughts and the creative process. Watch them all – they are beautiful!
